Dog Stays in Bed With Little Girl After She Returns Home From Vacation

A sweet video from Instagram user @chewythenewfoundland shows Chewy, a Newfoundland dog, acting like the official keeper of his little girl’s room, right up until she walks back through the door. While his sister was on vacation, he claimed her bed and waited. Chewy sprawls across the girl’s bed and keeps a toy close to him, as if he expects her to come back at any moment, even settling in for a nap as he waits.

Video shows dog waiting in bed with little girl so they can play

The video actually begins with the little girl entering the house before meeting the dog, as his mom says, “Chewy, guess who it is!” Chewy rushes to greet her on the hardwood floor near the stairs, pressing in close, wagging his tail really passionately, and soaking up every bit of attention as she kneels down to hug him. The on-screen text says, “He missed her so much ?❤️” — and judging by his sister’s reaction, she missed him, too.

Under the video, the caption explained the wait, reading, “He waited on her bed all day just to play with her after she got back from vacation,” and their excitement upon meeting each other spoke volumes.

Anyone who lives with a dog will know that they build their routines around the people they love. Moreover, they follow their human’s scent. A child’s bed smells like her, so it can become the next best thing to sitting beside her — and for some dogs like Chewy, waiting in a familiar place helps them handle the change when someone leaves the house for longer than usual.

Viewers were delighted in the comment section. One commenter wrote, “They are so loyal,” while another added, “I could use a Chewy moment after I get home from work.” A third commenter anticipated, “He’s not leaving his sissy’s side. He’s making sure she doesn’t leave him again,” — and from how this Newfoundland dog greets his little girl in the video, it seems to be true.
