Video: Rescue Dog Comforts Another Dog Who Lost Her Furry Brothers

A touching video from Instagram user @bundleofbullies shows a rescue dog named Potato staying close to his sister, Cupcake, after she lost her four furry brothers last month. Safe to say, it is melting hearts online. The on-screen text explains the backstory: “My dog was so sad after losing her 4 brothers last month that I rescued a dog for her.” What follows is a tender moment between the two Pit Bulls that speaks for itself.

In the video, the rescue dog rests his big head gently on Cupcake’s neck as she lies on a blanket. He presses into her like a weighted pillow, while she stays still and lets him lean on her with his head still over her, as if he is comforting her and making sure she is okay.

Under the video, the caption explains, “Cupcake is missing her brothers so much but Potato is so sweet to Cupcake and he is staying so close to her, he wants to be around her all the time, and she wants it too. She can be a nervous dog but Potato completely calms her down.”

In many cases, dogs enjoy socializing. They form strong bonds not only with people but also with other dogs in their home. So when one passes away, the others can show signs of grief, which include changes in sleep, appetite, or mood. Bringing in another steady companion can help ease that stress. Additionally, close physical contact, such as leaning or resting against each other, helps regulate a dog’s nerves and lowers anxiety, which explains the positions of the two dogs in the video.

Viewers showered the dogs with love. One commenter wrote, “Potato is the weighted blanket everyone needed,” while another added, “Everyone needed potato he was god sent.” Many called him an angel, and one gushed, “They are precious. Sweet potato is such a sweet boy.”

Potato is more than just a new housemate for Cupcake, and she welcomes every bit of his love.
