Dogs have many ways of letting their humans know what they need. Some scratch at the door when they want to go outside, and others bring toys when they’re ready to play. Mealtime, however, seems to bring out some of the most expressive behavior of all. A recent Instagram video shows how one determined dog makes his feelings about dinner very clear.
Dog lets out adorable sounds when it’s time for dinner
Bruno, a Jack Russell Terrier, seems to know exactly what he needs to do when hunger strikes. A video shared on Instagram through the account @bruno_parrett shows the clever pup vocalizing to make his feelings clear well before mealtime arrives.
The clip begins with Bruno sitting beside his owner on the couch, appearing calm at first. Within moments, however, he starts letting out soft, high-pitched whines while looking directly at her, as if expecting an immediate response. Onscreen text explains that “Bruno is communicating that he wants his dinner NOW,” and his behavior certainly supports that claim.
As the seconds pass, Bruno becomes more persistent. He continues making adorable sounds while repeatedly glancing at his owner, hoping she will give in. When his efforts don’t work right away, the determined terrier changes tactics. He crawls under her blanket and settles there dramatically, almost as if staging a small protest. Despite his performance, his owner calmly reassures him that dinner will arrive at the usual time.
His owner later explained in the caption that this behavior typically starts about 30 minutes before his scheduled mealtime. “This is a view into how Bruno acts when dinner time rolls around,” she wrote, noting that he had begun vocalizing well before dinner was actually served.
One person joked that while Bruno clearly wanted his meal, it also looked like he was “singing along to the Summer Place theme song.” Another commenter imagined his inner thoughts, writing that he seemed to be saying, “Ma, you’re getting all this… right?”
Others related to the scene from personal experience. “He’s starving!! Feed him NOW!” one viewer teased, while another compared Bruno to their own dog, who stares at them “like he’s gone through years of starvation” whenever food is involved.
