One viral video now making rounds online shows a patient dog learning this lesson the hard way while trying to bond with a group of unimpressed geese.
Dog loves to make friends with geese, but they are not interested
An Instagram video shared by @briskeyridge has gone viral after documenting the daily social struggles of Penny, an Anatolian Shepherd who lives on a farm surrounded by livestock. The clip shows Penny calmly sitting near a flock of geese, appearing hopeful that they might finally accept her as one of their own.
Instead, the geese seem far less welcoming. As Penny patiently stays put, one of the birds repeatedly tugs at tufts of her fur, pulling out small “floofs” while she quietly tolerates the treatment. Despite the obvious rejection, the dog remains gentle and non-reactive, seemingly determined to earn their approval.
Eventually, Penny walks over to her owner, who is filming the encounter and jokingly explains that while Penny clearly loves the geese, the feeling is not mutual. The video then cuts to another moment on the farm, this time showing Penny interacting with a turkey. Unlike the geese, the turkey appears relaxed and friendly, even preening Penny’s fur as the owner points out the calmer behavior.
Onscreen text adds context, explaining that Penny “dearly loves all the livestock and knows and abides by their social rules.” Despite understanding boundaries with other animals, she continues trying to befriend the geese, who consistently respond with aggression.
