The rescue Border Collie in the video wakes up like she has been waiting on a starting whistle all night, stretching in the doorway as she lets out a long and dramatic “awoo” that sounds like a full complaint. It says but one thing: the owner must function on her terms.
Dog reacts when the owner says it’s not time to play yet
In the video, the owner looks at the rescue dog as she tells him she is ready to play. Still trying to get oriented, the owner asks, “What? Why are you so ramped up right now?” and Mal answers by trotting off and returning with a toy, gripping it as if she has already booked the morning’s playtime appointment.
Her owner tries to explain, “No, it’s not that time. Hey, we just woke up,” telling her that it is “Way too early.” But Mal does not budge. She huffs and fidgets with the toy as if to reach a negotiation deal.
When her owner adds, “Hey, hey, hey! Too early,” Mal fires back with a couple of barks and a bit of whining, clearly stunned that anyone would suggest things should be done in a different way than she had expected.
Then comes the question from her owner that brings hope back to the Border Collie’s eyes: “Do you need to go outside first?” Mal immediately bolts down the stairs toward the front door, as if the question brought her back to life — and the owner states the obvious, remarking, “Yeah, see, you didn’t even think about it. Oh my God.”
In the caption, he writes it is the “basic order of operations.” Naturally, viewers loved the hilarious standoff, as one commenter spoke on behalf of the rescue dog, writing, “You just woke up. I’ve been dreaming about this all night!” Another declared, “THE QUEEN DOES NOT CARE AND DEMANDS YOU PLAY IMMEDIATELY!” But perhaps the most telling was a comment that said, “Time matters not to a BC.” And judging by the video, no one stands a chance against Mal’s high drive.
