In an Instagram video from @calypso.the.pit, a rescue dog named Cali’s owner introduces her to seals. But the Pit Bull is not entirely happy about making acquaintance with her “aquatic cousins.” The owners take Cali to a beach packed with seals while her dad holds her up at the railing so she can see. But Cali’s face says she would rather be anywhere else.
Dog is not entirely sure about seals
The video opens with the on-screen context, “Introducing our land seal to real seals,” as the dog stares out for a long moment, eyes fixed as if she is trying to figure out what exactly it is that she is looking at, thinking, “Wait… are those… me but waterproof??” Then her mom spells it out, telling her, “Those are real seals. You are a land seal.”
The Pit Bull does not seem impressed, though. She shifts in her dad’s arms and tries to wriggle down, whining a little as her mom keeps the encouragement coming, “It’s okay, it’s okay.” The on-screen captions translate her “inner voice” with hilarious lines like, “Hold on. REAL seals?? As in… the wet cousins??” before Cali concludes, “Okay nope, didn’t like that. Didn’t like that at all.”
And when Cali stands on her own and looks through the railing again, she never fully relaxes, but she cannot look away. Meanwhile, the captions continue voicing her, “Those are some suspicious seals,” and then, “They bark funny.” After a while, she is officially over it as “Alright that’s enough seal for me” flashes on the screen while she tries to walk away from her viewing spot.
Viewers had plenty of theories for the rescue dog‘s behavior. One insisted, “She wants to go to them,” while another heard pure bravado, writing, “Let me at them! Let me at them!” A third commenter noted Cali’s face: “She’s BAMBOOZLED.” And one commented, “She does not give her ‘seal of approval,’” a perfect pun-intended joke for the dog’s reaction to seals in the video.
