Video: Big Dog Can Barely Contain Excitement When It’s Time for School

Steve, the Newfoundland, usually moves like a slow-motion mountain, but the second he hears it’s time to leave, all that slowness goes out the window. Living next to a dairy farm in Switzerland means life is mostly cow bells and quiet. But for this 130-pound bear, School day is the main event. Liz over at @carlthemountaindog caught the whole thing on camera, and it’s honestly just pure happiness. In this video, Steve proves that even giant-sized pups have a massive inner puppy when school is back in session.

Big dog does a little run when it’s time to go to school

The clip starts with him sitting on the stone patio. He looks all regal and massive, like he’s posing for a painting. But then he sees his ride. Or maybe his teacher? Whoever it is, he immediately gets up and starts this hilarious, lumbering “run” toward the gate.

The text on the screen calls him a 130lb bear, which is totally accurate. Being a Newfoundland, he’s built for heavy lifting and cold water, not necessarily sprinting. But here he is, actually bouncing with joy. Watching a big dog move this fast is a sight to behold.

Steve finally reaches the person there to pick him up. The joy is just radiating off him, and his tail is going like a windshield wiper on high speed. He gets all the head scratches and pets, but then he remembers he has to brag. So he turns around and runs right back to the living room, where Liz is filming. He’s huffing and puffing, but he looks like he just won the lottery. “Hi, Hi, you’re going to school!” Mom says, mimicking his excitement.

Hundreds of people are already obsessed with this video about a big dog and his school day. One person in the comments said he looks so happy to see his friends. Another just couldn’t believe how fast he was moving. “OMG look at him go!” is pretty much the vibe.

“This is Steve the Newfoundland… and he loves going to school every week,” Liz says in the caption. Honestly, if we all had this much energy for a weekday, the world would be a better place.
