A dog named Dixie’s Instagram video is going viral for having an internal debate about whether or not she should take a bath. The video from Instagram user @dixie_blue_staffy showed the Blue Staffy’s mom calling the dog “my baby” in a sweet baby voice while bathwater poured loudly in the background. Meanwhilem Dixie looks like she’s trying to sit bathtime out.
Dog isn’t sure whether she should stay for a bath or run away
In the video, the dog prepares for her bath by planting herself on the floor in an awkward position, with her legs splayed and her body at an unusual angle, while her tail continues to wag violently. Her mom tries to figure out what’s happening, asking, “What’s going on? What’s happening?” Dixie even lets out a soft little whine, as if the running water is making her nervous.
Interestingly, Dixie’s tail says “I love you,” but the rest of her says “absolutely not” — the kind of mixed signal which is pretty common when dogs are in a dilemma. Dixie may want to stay close to their human, but may feel unsure about the noise and the whole idea of baths. Even small things like the sound of water can ramp up nerves. Hence, dogs may sometimes freeze or sit oddly when they don’t know what to do next.
In the video’s caption, the owner writes on the dog’s behalf: “You know me, I’m not one to be dramatic ? but I really don’t like the sound of that bath ? my legs were trying to make a getaway but my butt just wouldn’t move ? mum and her silly baby voice got a headbutt at the end though ?”
Eventually, Mom gives the gentle push, saying, “Well, come on, then,” and Dixie finally stands. Viewers were obsessed with her conflicted energy, writing, “Omg. The tail!” and “Sweet Dixie, your legs were trying to make a getaway,” while another fan noticed, “Omg her little back feets!” and we get the feeling.
