Maverick, a fluffy Golden Retriever pup, is going viral for a citrus taste test, the result of which surprised his owners. In an Instagram reel, he sniffs a lemon slice, licks it, and wags his tail like he approves. Mav’s parents expected a sour reaction, but he stays curious instead. The funny part comes when he decides the lemon is his and tries to steal it. The clip turns a simple kitchen moment into a quick, wholesome laugh.
Golden Retriever puppy isn’t really taken aback by the taste of lemon
The owners posted the video on @mavandthemontes one day ago. It shows Maverick trying lemon in their kitchen. The post has around 2.3k likes and 38 comments at the time of writing. The caption sums it up perfectly, saying, “When our golden retriever puppy tried a lemon for the first time… and immediately stole it. Fully expected a dramatic spit-take. Instead? Mav said mine and kind of loved it??”
The clip opens with Mav beside a stainless steel oven on a wooden-floored kitchen. Dad asks, “will you taste a lemon buddy,” and holds out a slice. Mav leans in, sniffs, and steals it right away. After the pet parent rescues the lemon from Mav’s “jaws”, the pup continues licking it.
Nicole sounds shocked and says, “Wait, why is he licking it?” The on-screen text reads, “The tail wag,” as Mav’s little tail keeps wagging excitedly. To make sure if the pup really likes it, Dad puts the slice on the floor, where Mav continues licking it. When Dad takes the lemon slice away, a new on-screen text reads, “Where’d it go?!” as the pup searches for the piece. He even licks the spot on the floor.
Followers were equally surprised as Mav seems to be the “only dog ever” to like the sour taste of lemon. One commenter joked, “Mom says I’m a pig and I eat “anything”.” Another commented, “He is a little confused haha, sooo cute.” A third follower rightly called Mav a “lemon pup.”
