Chewy, a huge dog, might be okay with bad weather, but a sweet video proves that his grandma isn’t taking any chances. Instagram user @chewythenewfoundland shared the video featuring the massive Newfoundland dog out for a rainy walk with his 96-year-old grandma — and she makes it clear that Chewy will be staying “covered,” no matter what anyone else says.
Grandma covers big dog with an umbrella when they are out in the rain
The video opens with Chewy’s grandma holding a large umbrella as the dog pads along beside her. She grips a cane in one hand and keeps the umbrella low with the other, trying her best to shelter both of them as the Newfoundland seems busy examining the wet grass. The owner gently tries to reason with her, saying, “Grandma, he doesn’t need to be covered. He’s okay.” But grandma doesn’t budge. She insists, “He needs to be covered.”
The owner tries again, saying, “No, Grandma, he’s okay. He likes the rain.” However, the elder person repeats, “He needs to be covered,” as she continues walking, umbrella still over Chewy. Under the video, the caption summarizes the sentiment: “Sometimes she likes to be the one to protect him.” And it definitely seems like it.
Some people hear “rain” and immediately think “the baby will catch a cold,” even when the “baby” in question is a giant dog famous for handling harsh weather. And grandma’s care for Chewy is just a part of her love language.
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the dynamic, with one user writing, “Please let grandma do her grandma duties next time.” Another added, “If grandma thinks he needs to be covered, by God that pup needs to be covered.” A third viewer joked, “That’s her great grandson ….
