Video: Dog Sunbathing While ‘Perched’ on a Sofa Will Brighten Your Day

Crisp, chilly mornings make any scrap of sunlight feel priceless — and Steven the Lurcher clearly knows that. At the residence of @steventhetalkinglurcher, Steven has managed to claim the one place where the sun hits just right — and he’s not giving it up. Sprawling on the rug or even on the couch seat is so passé. Instead, he has decided that the narrow armrest of the sofa is the ultimate spot for sunbathing.

In the video, he’s somehow balanced on the armrest, looking far too comfortable for how little space he’s using. Even when his mom starts talking about cleaning, Steven stays exactly where he is.

Things really kick off when his mom looks at him and asks what on earth he’s doing. Steven responds with a small tail wag and a soft little sound that feels a lot like a greeting. When the conversation turns to the state of the house, his mom jokes, “Please excuse the mess! Steven is going to help with the housework.”

Steven, however, is in no mood for cleaning. He just lets out a series of low, melodic sounds that suggest he’s not leaving his sunny spot anytime soon. Even his brother Philip, watching from the floor, seems a bit baffled by the display. He lets out a bark, perhaps wondering why he didn’t think of the armrest first.

Watching a Lurcher — a breed famous for being essentially 90% leg — perch so gracefully on a tiny armrest is amazing. It looks like it shouldn’t work, and yet it somehow does. He keeps his front paws delicately crossed, eyes heavy with sleep as the afternoon rays hit him. His mom even questions if he was a feline in a past life because his balance is so unnerving. He eventually starts “singing” to her in a low, grumbling voice. Whatever’s happening on the floor, Steven clearly prefers life from higher ground.

The clip has already racked up over 251,000 likes, with fans joking that Steven isn’t being lazy; he’s just pretending to be a living gargoyle. Between his balancing act and his “talking” skills, he’s definitely the one running the show in that house.
