Technology is fun right up until it makes someone you love look… not entirely human. Liam and Kerry from @thebilsons are having a relaxed post-Christmas evening — at least until it very much stops being relaxed. Their dog, Reggie, looks deeply concerned about a new Christmas gift.
In this funny video, the Cocker Spaniel’s owner prepares to test out an LED face mask. Reggie sits on the ottoman, keeping a close eye on the strange plastic face. And Liam tries to reassure his pet that he is still the same person underneath.
Dog retreats after owner shows off ‘Christmas gift’ in video
Reggie, being a sensitive Spaniel, places a “concerned paw” on Liam’s thigh before the mask goes on. Spaniels don’t hide their feelings, and Reggie’s face is doing all the talking here. He watches Liam intensely while his owners document the tech experiment. Liam warns him not to be alarmed as the mask finally covers his face. There’s a brief pause, a click of the remote — and Reggie knows something bad is coming. Reggie even climbs onto the couch to investigate the plastic shield up close.
Then the LED lights flicker to life. The second the mask lights up red, Reggie decides he has seen enough. He recoils instantly, scrambling back toward the ottoman in total shock. Kerry can’t help but laugh as she films her pet’s dramatic exit. Reggie is visibly shaken by the glowing transformation of his favorite human. He decides that being close to this “new dad” is no longer his top priority.
Liam eventually extends an arm and says, “It’s me, Hi.” Reggie wags his tail tentatively from a safe distance on the floor. However, he has absolutely no intention of touching the glowing mask. He stays far away, clearly waiting for the batteries to die. Finally, he retreats to the kitchen door to watch from a safe vantage point. As Liam noted, “The way he stands at the door” is truly hilarious.
With over 14,000 likes, Reggie’s cautious reaction has become a holiday favorite. He loves his people — just preferably when they look like people. For Reggie’s sake, let’s hope that thing doesn’t come out again anytime soon.
