Poles can be tricky, and so a Golden Retriever named Hudson’s video shows how he has made an enemy out of a pole during a walk with his owner. Hudson’s Instagram page, @hudsonbegood, shared the video, showing the Golden Retriever facing off with a pole — something his owner jokingly calls his one true “natural enemy.” It’s a hilarious clip, and dog owners immediately recognized Hudson’s struggle.
Golden Retriever struggles with pole while out on walk in video
In the video, the Golden Retriever stands frozen on the sidewalk. His leash sits on the opposite side of the pole, and instead of stepping around it, he locks his legs and refuses to move. His owner tries to guide him forward, but Hudson stays in place, staring at the pole like it’s a puzzle he cannot solve. When the owner walks to the other side, Hudson suddenly moves with no problem at all.
The whole scene plays out in a way every dog owner has seen before — the kind of “dog logic” that never fails to make people laugh. “Golden Retrievers have no known natural enemy except… Poles when out on a walk,” the owner jokes in the on-screen caption, adding, “They’ll get you every time.” The post’s caption keeps the joke going: “It’s the truth,” and “our annual reminder to be aware of poles this holiday season, you never know when they’ll sneak up on you.” In the comments, the owner added, “Goldens and poles are a match made in heaven.”
Viewers filled the comment section with their admiration for the dog. One person wrote, “Oh Hudson what a character.” Dozens of dog owners chimed in with experiences of their own pets freezing at poles, signs, railings, grates, and anything else that interrupts their path. One user joked, “Annual reminder that statue mode will be enabled and paws planted when encountering any level of inconvenience when walking.”
The Golden Retriever’s video is short and goofy, but it struck a nerve with dog lovers because it’s such a common moment and an everyday challenge that can freeze your dog in their spot.
