Video: Labrador Takes Big Brother Duties Towards Baby Seriously

Elvis, the Labrador, didn’t need a manual or a heads-up to understand that his life had changed. One day, there was just a very small human on the floor making unfamiliar noises, and somehow, that became his responsibility. In this throwback video shared by @elvisbatzthelab, Elvis is planted right by his newborn baby brother’s feet, keeping watch with the kind of focus you don’t teach. His love for him is quiet and instinctive. Elvis is very much the dog who clearly decided early on that his big brother duties were non-negotiable.

Labrador ‘can’t help but worry’ about little baby brother in video

The viral video walks us through a list of all the things Elvis found concerning, starting with strange baby noises. Every little sound earns an immediate head turn and a check-in, just to be sure everything is still okay. When Dad leans in for tickles, Elvis steps between them, gently but firmly inserting himself into the situation, absolutely not without supervision.

Head control is another big worry. When baby Ted struggles to hold his head up on the play mat, Elvis hovers close, sniffing and nudging, encouraging him like a very patient coach. A sneeze earns the same response. Elvis doesn’t panic; he just stays close, steady, and alert.

Crying? That’s handled with full-body comfort. Elvis lies down right in front of Ted, close enough to be felt, as if proximity alone might help. When Ted starts moving around the house in what Elvis clearly considers a suspicious vehicle, Elvis follows, eyes locked, ready for intervention.

Illness, sledding, slides; Elvis treats them all with the same seriousness. He shadows Ted when he’s sick, runs behind him in the snow. And even stations himself at the bottom of the slide like a furry safety net.

The final shot says everything. Ted and Elvis sit side by side, looking out at the lake, Ted’s arm wrapped around Elvis. The watchful protector and the kid he grew up guarding are still together. With over 133,000 likes, it’s clear that many people felt this one, because some dogs don’t just grow up with kids. They help raise them.
