Video: ‘Foodie’ Golden Retriever Puppy Rates Food He Tried for First Time

There’s something hilariously earnest about watching a tiny Golden Retriever puppy take food reviews seriously. In a video posted by @maui_thegoldenpup, little Hugo sits at the top of the stairs like he’s deep in thought — tongue out, eyes focused, probably dreaming about snacks.

The onscreen text sets the stage: “Puppy Hugo rating food he tried for the first time.” The next few shots take us on the very same journey with the young Golden Retriever. The video is part food vlog and part comedy, starring one very expressive pup who clearly has opinions — and a stomach big enough to back them up.

Owner proves Golden Retriever puppy is a ‘big foodie’ in video

Over 20K people have already hit like on this video of a Golden Retriever puppy, and once you see it, you’ll get why. The taste test begins with yogurt. One lick in and Hugo’s hooked. He grabs the tub right out of his mom’s hand, trying to balance it like a pro while still licking every last drop. It earns a respectable 8/10 — creamy, delicious, and apparently nose-approved.

Then comes restaurant water. Hugo laps it up from a plastic cup, eyes squinting in satisfaction. The review is a diplomatic 6/10. “Better than fountain water,” says the onscreen caption.

Then comes dried fish. His face says it all — confused, intrigued, mildly betrayed. He sniffs, licks, and gnaws before declaring it a chewy 3/10. “Will take 3 business days to chew,” the in-video text teases.

Things pick up again with the legendary Pupcup. Hugo’s entire soul lights up. “Am I in heaven?,” he seems to ask, while cleaning up the cup till it is spotless. He rates it a solid 12/10.

Then comes the chicken leg — a full-blown 20/10 situation. Hugo loses all chill and tries to swallow it whole while his mom pleads, “Slow!” Ice cubes, on the other hand, get a frosty 0/10. “So annoying,” reads the caption, because they are just so slippery and disappearing.

However, the grand finale comes with Hugo seated at a restaurant table, nose twitching at a spread of human food. “Why don’t you let me taste these?,” the text says, before he settles on his last rating: “These smells — 10/10.”

One viewer joked in the comments, “Why is Hugo better than most children at drinking from a cup?” Another added, “Foodie indeed!”
