Big dogs often forget just how big they really are. They try to curl up on your lap, squeeze into tiny corners, and in Appa the Great Dane’s case, hide behind a tree that’s roughly one-tenth his size. A new viral video of the gentle giant trying to disappear during a game of hide and seek with his owner has viewers cracking up and questioning whether Appa truly believes he’s invisible.
Great Dane’s hiding skills may not be perfect, but at least they leave owner in stitches
Appa was out in the woods with his owner, Kaz, enjoying a playful game of hide and seek. Kaz, who often shares clips of their adventures on her Instagram account, @kazandappa, recently posted a short video showing just how “good” the Great Dane is at hiding. The clip begins with Appa standing behind a tree trunk, clearly convinced that his enormous frame is completely concealed. The overlay text humorously reads, “Peek-a-boo: Dane version.”
As Kaz approaches, she spots the massive dog instantly, but Appa isn’t ready to give up. With a playful bark, he hops to the other side of the same tree, convinced that this time he’s nailed the perfect hiding spot. Unfortunately for him, the tree is far too small to conceal a dog his size, and most of his giant frame remains visible.
Still, Kaz plays along, tilting the camera just enough so that for a split second, it looks like Appa has successfully hidden. The proud Dane stands still, confident in his camouflage, until Kaz pans the camera again to reveal him in full. Finally, Appa lets out an exaggerated huff, as if realizing the game is up.
Kaz captioned the video with a playful note, calling Appa “such a good hider,” and viewers couldn’t agree more — though not for the reasons one might expect. One user wrote, “If I can’t see you, then you can’t see me,” poking fun at Appa’s logic. Another joked, “What Great Dane? I can’t see a thing!” while someone else said, “Now you see me, now you don’t.” One viewer summed it up perfectly, comparing the scene to “playing hide and seek with a school bus.”
