The world looks different through a puppy’s eyes. It is full of smells, textures, and tastes that humans usually wouldn’t think twice about. That’s why some of the most viral pet videos aren’t about tricks or stunts, but simple “first encounters.” One Samoyed puppy recently came face-to-face with a lemon in a video. His dramatic, puzzled reaction has Instagram users hitting replay over and over.
Samoyed puppy learns what lemon tastes like and is clearly not a fan in adorable video
Frost, a fluffy Samoyed puppy with the Instagram handle @fluffybearfrost, is featured in the video. Known for his playful personality and expressive reactions, he has developed a habit of sniffing lemons whenever he spots them around the house. Curious to see how he would react to actually tasting one, his owner decided to hold out a small piece of it for him.
The clip shows Frost cautiously approaching the fruit, then pulling back as if unsure what this “spicy yellow thing” could be. His initial sniff quickly turns into a tentative lick. It is followed by a funny shake of his head as he experiences the tangy zing of the citrus.
At one point, the Samoyed even sticks his tongue out slightly. His reaction makes it clear that the taste is unexpected and intense for such a young pup.
As amusing as Frost’s reaction might be, his instincts were right. PetMD notes that while a small taste of lemon isn’t usually harmful, the high acidity and the presence of compounds like psoralen in the peel can cause stomach upset and other issues.
Most dogs instinctively avoid citric fruits due to their strong odor and sour taste. This makes them unlikely to consume lemons voluntarily. As such, it is best to let your dog enjoy treats made specifically for them to ensure their safety and well-being.
