Video: Therapy Dog’s ‘Main Roles’ at Children’s Hospitals Involve Spreading Joy

Hospitals can often feel overwhelming, especially for children coping with serious medical challenges. The long hours, unfamiliar routines, and constant hum of machines can take a toll not only on young patients but also on their families and caregivers. In these moments, a comforting presence can make a world of difference.

That’s where therapy dogs step in. These furry companions manage to lift spirits, ease anxiety, and spark laughter even on the toughest days. One such dog, a Goldendoodle named Brodie, is showing the internet just how much healing power can come from a wagging tail and a gentle nuzzle.

Brodie the Goldendoodle, along with his owner, 34-year-old Cliff Brush from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has become a source of light for millions online. Together, they share uplifting moments with their 2 million Instagram followers on the account @brodiethatdood, where Brodie proudly refers to himself as “your local serotonin dealer.”

Brush first brought Brodie into his life for a deeply personal reason. In his 20s, he was diagnosed with lichen planus, an autoimmune skin condition that flares up under stress. After raising Brodie as an emotional support animal, Brush noticed his health improve dramatically. What started as one man’s effort to manage his own stress has now turned into a mission to help others heal, too.

A video shared on the account on August 25 showcases the many ways Brodie brings joy to children’s hospitals. The clip begins with him making his rounds, boosting nurses’ morale as they greet him in the hallway. Many of the staff members instantly recognize him from TikTok and can’t resist giving him affectionate pets and smiles.

Next, Brodie turns his attention to parents and young patients. He curls up beside children, offering warmth and calm to those preparing for surgery or undergoing treatment. Parents, often overwhelmed by worry, find comfort in seeing their kids smile again. Perhaps one of the most moving moments in the video shows Brodie walking beside a young boy during physical therapy. The pup matches his pace step by step as the child learns to walk again.

Brodie is also there for life’s brighter moments. The video shows him celebrating a patient’s last day of chemotherapy. He stands proudly beside them as they ring the victory bell, marking the end of treatment.

Through every visit, Brodie reminds everyone that healing isn’t just physical. Sometimes, it begins with a dog’s simple gift of love.
