Games like hide-and-seek are a classic way to entertain kids. However, dogs can be surprisingly competitive players too — or at least, they think they are. While some pups can truly sneak around and stay out of sight, others have a slightly more obvious approach. A Bernese Mountain Dog puppy recently proved that confidence doesn’t always equal camouflage in a video that had his owner and Instagram viewers laughing out loud.
Videos shows Bernese Mountain Puppy is ‘pretty much invisible’ playing hide and seek with owner
Balou, a young Bernese Mountain Dog, might not be a master of hide-and-seek just yet, but his attempts are winning over the internet. In a video originally shared by the Instagram account @balou.de.berner and reshared on @galvin.bernese, the playful pup is caught mid-game with his owner. Balou’s idea of “hiding” was slipping under a curtain, but only his head was covered. The rest of his large, fluffy body was sticking out in plain sight.
The clip includes on-screen text from the owner that reads, “I was playing hide and seek with my puppy and found him like this.” To make matters even more obvious, Balou starts barking as soon as his owner discovers him, as if impatiently saying, “Come on, just find me already!”
The video’s caption adds another playful touch, joking that Balou was “pretty much invisible,” despite being anything but. Clearly, the humor wasn’t lost on viewers. The video has racked up nearly half a million views and over 46K likes, making it one of Balou’s most popular appearances yet on social media.
One fan declared, “He’s winning, I don’t care what you say.” Another playfully graded his effort, writing, “A for effort, C for execution.” Some got creative with humor, like the user who commented, “Bros thinking inside the box,” referring to Balou’s limited approach to hiding. And one particularly enthusiastic viewer chimed in, “If I can’t see you, you can’t see me!!! The trick for hide-n-seek!!!!”
Balou’s attempt may not have been the most strategic, but that’s exactly what makes it so entertaining. And judging by the laughter and affection pouring in from viewers, his version of hide and seek is just as good, if not better, than the real thing.
