Video: Mini Dachshund Participates in Weiner Dog Race & It Beats All Expectations

Wiener dog races might not crown Olympic athletes, but they do showcase plenty of personality. Between nervous pups, distracted sniffers, and the occasional runaways, the track is less about victory and more about entertainment. Cashew, a mini Dachshund, embodied that perfectly when his turn came. Instead of sprinting to glory, he delivered a performance that was both awkward and absolutely endearing.

Mini Dachshund does everything but win the race and melts hearts in video

Cashew, a mini Dachshund belonging to pet parent Alex Ohlson, recently made his big debut at a wiener dog race, as documented in a new video. It begins with her carrying the pup into the venue, tucked snugly in her arms. The camera then pans across the bustling scene, showing a sea of Doxies and their owners getting ready for the big event.

When it was finally Cashew’s turn to hit the track, things didn’t exactly go according to plan. At the starting line, he appeared hesitant and even tried to wriggle away from the action. Ohlson joked that his hesitation was so obvious, the event commentator couldn’t help but call him out.

After being guided back to the track, Cashew gave it another try. However, instead of sprinting toward Ohlson, who was waiting at the finish line, he trotted off in the direction of another dog mom instead.

Eventually, Cashew finds his way back to Ohlson, but not before giving off what she described as an “absolutely traumatized” look. In her caption, she poked fun at the situation, writing, “The athletic events are not for him.”

Viewers of the video, however, adored the Dachshund’s chaotic run at the wiener dog race. One person wrote, “He’s absolutely fuming that you thought this was a good idea.” Another added, “I’d be completely lost too and wouldn’t know what to do, lol. But honestly, you did your best.” Many agreed that Cashew may not have crossed the finish line first, but he was still the star of the show, with one commenter summing it up: “Winner in my heart.”
