This is precisely what Megha Kaushik, a dog mom from Toronto, went through when her Golden Retriever Rio suffered a “massive heart attack.” In a video, the owner captured Rio’s reunion with his dog sibling Pablo after spending a few days in the hospital’s ICU unit. Although unstable, Rio tried his best to get up and greet his brother during their heartwarming meet-up.
Golden Retriever wakes up after spending days in ICU to greet furry sibling
Golden Retriever Rio couldn’t be happier to meet his brother Pablo after spending four days in the ICU getting treated for a heart attack. Owner Megha Kaushik documented the furry siblings’ reunion in an Instagram video that went viral. The dog mom revealed that the canine opened his eyes for the first time since the surgery when they took Pablo to see him.
The video captured Pablo visiting his younger dog brother at the ICU, seemingly worried about Rio’s condition. The latter, who was awake and resting on the bed, sensed his sibling’s arrival as the two got closer. As soon as he realized Pablo had come to meet him, Rio tried getting up. However, since he was still under treatment, he couldn’t stand on all fours like he used to.
Rio, adamant on greeting Pablo properly, made desperate attempts to get up but failed. Tired from his continuous efforts, he went back to resting. However, he was fully aware of his brother’s presence right beside him. Pablo seemed to understand Rio’s condition and showered him with love, hoping for him to get better.
Meanwhile, the “emotional” owner kept her followers updated on Rio’s health after surgery. The mom shared in the dog’s ICU video’s caption that the heart attack “left his heart muscle swollen and some fluid in left valve of heart.” The parent, however, assured everyone that their Golden Retriever’s condition was stable and that doctors were checking for infections. While Rio wouldn’t be able to move his limbs for a while, the owner recalled doctors calling his recovery a “miracle.”
Netizens sent their love, prayers, and best wishes for Rio to make a complete recovery. They called the Golden Retriever a “fighter,” hoping that the canine duo could play together very soon.
