We’ve all tried getting our dogs to pose for a photo: the treats, the squeaky toy, the camera roll full of blurs. So imagine a pup not only sitting still, but flashing a giant smile — on command — and doing it as you spell out the word “cheese.” It sounds like a well-trained Instagram fantasy, but for one grinning pup, it’s just another day in front of the camera.
Instagram video shows dog spelling out Cheese using his smile
Django, a mixed-breed dog with German Shepherd, Akita, and Collie in his DNA, has gone viral for flashing his signature grin in perfect sync with a spelling lesson. In a recent Instagram video, his owner begins by saying they are going to spell the word “Cheese.” As she slowly calls out each letter — “C,” “H,” “E,” and so on — Django flashes a wide smile each time, as if he knows exactly what’s coming. By the time she says the full word “cheese,” Django gives his biggest, most photogenic smile, right on cue. His owner cheers him on for a job well done, and it’s easy to see why fans are obsessed.
One commenter wrote, “Give that baby some cheese,” while another joked, “Spelling bee champion!” Others focused on his irresistible expression. One fan said, “He is so adorable! Love those teeefff.”
Django isn’t new to internet fame. With a growing following on Instagram, the clever canine has become well-known for his range of tricks and facial expressions. During a Q&A on Instagram Stories, his owner explained how it all started. According to her, Django first began grinning around the age of two. Noticing how expressive he was, she began encouraging the behavior using positive reinforcement and treats.
“He started doing it at about 2 years old, and we’ve just encouraged it,” she said. “Now he has trigger words he’ll smile for.” The word “cheese” is now one of those magic words that brings out his goofy grin, much to the internet’s delight.
