Almost all pet parents will tell you that their dogs are more than just animals — they’re family. When that is unexpectedly torn apart, the emotional toll can be deeply felt, not just by humans but by their furry companions as well. A heartbreaking video of Siberian Huskies mourning the loss of their canine sibling has left viewers in tears, offering a glimpse into how dogs grieve.
Huskies mourn sibling who unexpectedly passed away in moving video
The video posted by the owner of three Siberian Huskies shows Tikanni and Tehya, two of the surviving dogs, mourning the sudden loss of their sibling, Kita. It captures them searching for their sister in her favorite spots around the house.
As they wander, they pause to howl, as though waiting for Kita to join in or respond to their calls. However, they unfortunately receive no reply from their sister. Their grieving is evident as they seem low in energy and restless in the clip, visibly affected by her absence.
The owner, who goes by the Instagram handle @tikanni.kita.n.tehya.3.sibes, shared a heartfelt caption alongside the video. She writes, “To anyone who says ‘Dogs don’t grieve’ YES they absolutely do.”
The owner opens up about the toll this loss has taken on her family, especially on Tikanni and Tehya. She says, “Words cannot describe the heartbreak we have been going through, not only grieving the loss of Kita for myself, but having to watch Tikanni and Tehya grieve her loss.”
She further reveals just how significant their sister was in their lives. The dog mom described her as the “glue that held the pack together” and the “Queen of the house.” Moreover, she was the one who taught her siblings how to be who they are.
The owner reassures viewers that while it will take some time for everyone to adjust to the absence of Kita, they are giving each other plenty of love and space to grieve. She concluded the caption saying, “It has meant the world to me to see just how much you all loved and adored Kita, just as much as we do.”
