Authorities rescue senior dog trapped in ravine in Texas

The City of Waco’s Facebook page posted a video capturing the Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team and Animal Control rescuing Buddy. Reportedly, the senior dog escaped and accidentally fell into a steep ravine. A passerby also tried to give him a hand but had to call in the authorities after their attempts failed.

The video shows the authorities lifting the canine using a basket. He was later scanned for a microchip, which is how they identified Buddy’s owner. The Facebook post reported that the rescued dog has reunited with his human and is back home safe and sound.

Buddy was well cared for until his owner picked him up, with Animal Shelter Veterinarian Dr. Vallon also assessing the dog after the authorities rescued him.

This incident further highlights how important it is to microchip dogs. It is compulsory for dog owners in Waco, Texas, to microchip their pets. It was thanks to his microchip that Buddy’s owner could reunite with him so quickly after his rescue.

Microchipping dogs helps shelters and animal control identify the canine’s owner. After scanning for the microchip, they can access your information and contact you immediately. However, as a pet parent, you must update the registry if you move or change your phone number.

The Facebook post emphasized that promptly reporting incidents is highly encouraged. Moreover, the on-site shelter veterinarian played a crucial role in this dog rescue as they could assess Buddy immediately to ensure he was safe and not injured.
