American Airlines Relaxes Pet Policy, Allows Carry-on

Traveling with your pet will now be much easier with American Airlines. With a revised carry-on allowance, passengers can now include their pet carrier as part of their onboard luggage. This certainly ensures a smoother journey for both pets and their human companions.

American Airlines passengers can now bring full-size carry-on along with pet carrier

American Airlines has updated its pet policy, allowing for a more flexible travel experience for pet owners, as per USA Today. As American Airlines’ website states, passengers can bring one pet carrier as a carry-on. However, they will have to pay the applicable fee and ensure their pet remains safely secured under the seat in the pet carrier for the duration of the flight.

Additionally, travelers have the option to bring one extra item onboard, such as a personal bag or a carry-on that meets the airline’s specifications.

Until now, travelers with pets were permitted to carry only a small personal item that could fit under the seat. Any larger items, such as carry-ons, required a $35 check-in fee. Alternatively, pet owners had the option to stow their pets in the cargo hold to accommodate larger items on the flight.

Meanwhile, there has been no adjustment to the fees for bringing pets onboard, which remains fixed at $150. In addition, pet strollers are still subject to check-in requirements, and standard checked bag fees apply.

Despite the policy relaxation, experts emphasize the importance of careful planning and thorough research before flying with pets. This includes selecting a pet-friendly airline, arranging appropriate insurance coverage, and adequately preparing pets for the journey.

Passengers should be aware that there are restrictions on the number of pets allowed on various aircraft. Thus, they must review airline policies before making travel arrangements and booking tickets. Moreover, travelers should consider country-specific regulations and understand the pet-entry requirements of their destination country when traveling abroad.
