Over 150 Dogs Rescued From Filthy, Feces-Covered Property

More than 150 dogs were rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Chatham County, North Carolina, in a major animal rescue operation conducted on Feb. 6. Unfortunately, the large-scale rescue uncovered a severe case of animal neglect, as rescuers found the animals living in horrific conditions.

Rescuers recovered over 150 neglected dogs

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office joined hands with the BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Animal Rescue Corps to save the 150-plus neglected dogs. A majority of the canines in the alleged puppy mill were Miniature Schnauzers and Schnauzers, as reported by PEOPLE.

Additionally, the cages that animal rescuers found the dogs living in had “several inches of urine and feces” around them.

Shockingly, there were multiple deceased dogs on the filthy property. Rescuers seized all the living animals, including newborn puppies. Unfortunately, the rescued canines were malnourished, dehydrated, had parasites, suffered from skin conditions, and had untreated injuries.

Furthermore, others suffered from severe medical issues that required urgent medical attention.

Afterward, the neglected animals were all taken to an undisclosed rescue facility, where they are now being cared for and undergoing treatment.

In a statement, Tim Woodward, the executive director of Animal Rescue Corps, termed the rescue as a “triumph against cruelty”.

Thankfully, authorities arrested and charged the owner’s property on counts of animal cruelty. Following this large-scale rescue, Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson shared they are relentless in the pursuit of illegal puppy mill operators. Moreover, he commended the animal rescuers for their swift response.

“We recognize that not all victims of abuse are people, and we take animal cruelty very seriously,” Roberson stated, adding, “We’re committed to fully enforcing state laws, holding those responsible for such acts accountable.” He concluded by saying, “We’re also grateful for the assistance of BISSELL Pet Foundation and Animal Rescue Corps in helping address this situation.”

Currently, the BISSELL Pet Foundation is appealing for donations to aid in the total recovery of all the rescued animals. You can donate here.
