A male Boxer from Bloomington, Illinois, nabbed the Guinness World Record for the longest dog tongue. Rocky is now making headlines for his incredible muscular mouth organ.
Boxer breaks record for longest dog tongue
According to Guinness World Records, Rocky’s tongue is an astounding 13.883 centimeters (5.47 inches). His dog mom, Crystal Williams, told 25NewsNow that she’s always known the dog’s tongue was unusually long. However, it didn’t really register until she heard about a Labrador Retriever/German Shepherd mix named Zoey receiving the illustrious accolade of longest dog tongue. Hers measured 12.7 centimeters (equivalent to 5 inches). That’s when it occurred to Williams to measure her pup’s tongue.
“I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I think we have a shot, I have to look into this,’ “Williams told the news outlet.
The opportunity to size up Rocky’s tongue occurred when the dog needed a dental procedure. Dr. Bernard Bleem, a veterinarian, measured Rocky’s tongue while the dog was under anesthesia.
Police verify dog tongue measurement
A Bloomington police officer attended the dental procedure to verify the tongue measurement, according to a police department post on Facebook.
“Evidence collection is critical to building a solid case. This morning one of our top evidence collectors was called upon to witness and document some unusual evidence for residents, Brad and Crystal Williams. In this case, evidence collection also required a veterinarian and… a measuring tape,” the post read.
The post continued: “According to the Guinness Book of World Records, multiple witnesses are required to observe any attempts at breaking world records. Ofc. Parsley and Dr. Bleem stood by as local pooch, Rocky Williams, unfurled his gigantic tongue. With great anticipation, Dr. Bleem measured Rocky’s mammoth tongue, coming up with 13.88 cm! This appears to be a new world record!”
Rocky joins a long line of long-tongued dogs. Prior to Rocky and Zoey, a female Saint Bernard named Mochi held the title of longest dog tongue. Hers was 18.58 centimeters (7.3 inches) long. Sadly, she passed away in South Dakota in October 2021.
