Oprah’s Dog Luke: Breed, Age, and More

Luke was one of the three dogs Oprah adopted along with the late Layla and Gracie. The dog mom loves her pet babies and has posted multiple pictures of her adorable canines on her Instagram. Here is everything we know about Oprah’s dog Luke’s age and breed.

How old is Oprah’s dog Luke?

The age of Luke is not known but media mogul Oprah adopted the pooch in 2006 along with other fur babies Layla and Gracie.

Oprah adopted Luke along with her long-term partner Stedman Graha. The couple bought the pup home during their trip to the Mojave Desert in California. However, they were unsure how to introduce their new family members to their other pets: Sophie and Solomon. At the time, Oprah told Oprah.com, “I have to say, I’m a little anxious about Sophie meeting the pups. I want all my children to just get along.”

To make things easy, the Oprah took the help of Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer, who took a “backwards approach” to introduce the new pets to the old ones. The talk show host said, “Cesar says the dogs shouldn’t meet face to face because that’s too threatening. Instead, he introduces Sophie to Luke’s backside, where his scent is strongest.” And the trick worked as everybody started “getting along.”

What breed is Oprah’s dog Luke?

Luke is a Golden Retriever. They are of gentle and affectionate nature and are characterized by striking golden coats. Their lifespan is 10-12 years.

After adopting Luke, Oprah struggled for a while. She soon realized taking care of pup Luke along with two other puppies was not that easy. Due to their different needs and poop schedules, Oprah was “sleep deprived” for the first few weeks. Soon after, she took the help of dog expert Tamar Gellar to develop a system and teach the trio some good manners. And all her efforts paid off. Luke and the other pets behaved well in no time.
