Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Dog Pula: Breed, Age, & More

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been dog parents to many pups including their beloved Pula who has been a constant fixture in their lives. Here is everything we know about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s dog’s age and breed.

How old is Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s dog Pula?

The age of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s dog Pula is not clear as she was a rescue dog.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex adopted a black Labrador Pula in 2018, shortly after they tied the knot. However, the royal couple never disclosed the name of their beloved dog. They even joked that “people keep getting her name wrong.” But at last, her name was revealed in the book “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family.” It was written by veteran royal journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

The book not only revealed the name of their canine but even the special meaning of her name. As per the book, the name Pula refers to the official currency of Botswana, the country where Prince Harry took actress Meghan when they first started dating in 2016. Additionally, it also means “rain” in Setswana, which is very scarce in Botswana, making it valuable and a blessing.

And since the adoption, Pula has been hogging most of the limelight. She has been featured in With Love, Meghan, and was found crashing the Royal couple’s first primetime TV appearance for TIME magazine’s annual list of the world’s most influential people on ABC. Pula was then seen stealing the spotlight during Megan Markle’s conversation with feminist icon Gloria Steinem.

What breed is Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s dog Pula?

The breed of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s dog Pula is Labrador. They are gentle pups with a life expectancy of 11-13 years.

The couple also had a rescue dog, a beagle named Guy (who died in January 2025). She also had a Labrador-shepherd mix called Bogart. However, the star had to leave the pup behind before moving to London. Other than Pula, they have also adopted a beagle named Mamma Mia from a rescue.
