Tuna is 14 years old and is still alive and well, as of February 26, 2025.
His owner doesn’t normally like to post about Tuna’s birthday, but we did find an Instagram post that celebrated his third birthday in 2013. So if we take this at face value, Tuna’s birthday is July 31 and he was born in 2010.
This birthday would match the description of Tuna on his official website, which says that the dog was adopted by Courtney in December 2010 when he was just a four-month-old puppy.
What is Tuna the Dog’s breed?
Tuna is a Chiweenie or a cross between a Dachshund and Chihuahua. The breed is also known by several other nicknames, like the Weeniehuahua, Mexican Hot Dog, and German Taco.
The average lifespan of the Chiweenie is somewhere between 12 to 16 years, so Tuna is very much a senior dog at this point.
In a post on December 24, 2024, his owner said that one of his front teeth chipped due to old age. The vet advised not to use anesthesia because Tuna was 14 years old and “a mild heart murmur.”
Still, Tuna seems to be enjoying his golden years. His latest calendar called the “2025 Retirement Edition Calendar” showcases his “theoretical retirement adventures” and how he is going to explore his senior lifestyle.
