Petties 2013: We have our winners!

Considered the Oscars of the pet blogging community, the 2013 Petties video ceremony went live last Friday, September 6, naming the best in pet blogging across 10 categories as chosen by the peer online community.

Each winner received a $1,000 donation to the non-profit shelter or rescue of choice, along with a Petties trophy, victory badges, and bragging rights.

National Mill Dog Rescue got $1,000 from Dogniton Post’s Brooke Arnold (Best Dog Blog), and the Peyton, Colo., rescue won Petties for Michelle Burchfield’s Best Designed Blog and Best Video Post (“Where Do Pet Store Puppies Come From?“) for a total of $3,000. Kitten Associates in Newtown, Conn., also received multiple donations from Petties winners: $1,000 from Ingrid King for her Best Overall Pet Blog (The Conscious Cat), and another $1,000 from Covered in Cat Hair’s Robin Olsen for her Best Blog Post, “Dear Fred.”

Of the new award categories introduced this year, Crusoe The Celebrity Dachshund was named Best Active Living Blog; Tagg, the Pet Tracker received Best Mobile Pet App.; and Leah Miller won the first Petties Best Pet Video award for “Cat Vs Mouse.”

The biggest prize, the $10,000 Unsung Hero Award, went to Jason Flatt of Dallas, Ga. The only award not decided by online polling, the UHA is given to the individual who goes the extra mile (or two) for animals, and Jason’s tireless advocacy and education efforts swayed DogTime’s judges in a very competitive field.
