Mycotoxicosis (tremogenic toxins) in dogs is a condition caused by contaminated food products. Unfortunately, the condition can be very harmful to dogs.

  • Vomiting
  • Tremors
  • Seizure
  • Acting uncoordinated
  • Panting
  • High heart rate
  • Becoming hyperactive
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dehydration
  • High body temperature
  • Weakness
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea

The cause of the condition is a dog ingesting spoiled food or matter. For example, some of the most frequent causes include:

  • Compost
  • Garbage
  • Cheese
  • Mushrooms
  • English walnuts

Treatments for Mycotoxicosis (Tremogenic Toxins) in Dogs

Firstly, your vet will ask about your dog’s symptoms. Secondly, your vet will ask about any circumstances where your dog could have ingested spoiled substances.

Thirdly, your vet will carry out a full physical examination. Fourthly, blood and urine tests will be taken. Additionally, your dog’s bile will be tested to help confirm the condition.

Unfortunately, treatment usually requires a hospital stay. For example, your dog’s stomach will be pumped to try and remove any toxins. Additionally, activated charcoal can be used to absorb any toxins.

Ultimately, prevention is better than cure with this condition. So make sure that your dog does not have access to spoiled food and matter. Also, never let your dog eat garbage!
