Dog Rescued From Cage Left Near Ocean To Be Drowned By Tide

Imagine being a dog, left alone, trapped in a cage near the ocean, unable to escape as the tide rolled in to drown you. It sounds like a horror story, but that nightmare was all too real for a one-year-old Pit Bull who was left for dead on the coast in New Jersey. Authorities and the Monmouth County SPCA are investigating this “potential animal cruelty case,” and they’re seeking the public’s help in finding out any information regarding the incident.

On July 30th, 2018 at about 6:15 am, a passerby was out walking their dog. Suddenly, the dog started reacting to something between the rocks. The dog walker investigated and found a small, black wire cage with a frightened dog trapped inside. The tide had already brought water to the bottom of the cage as the trapped dog cowered, but the good Samaritan climbed over a wall to get to the pup and rescued him.

By the time Animal Control arrived, the cage was already mostly under water, and the dog may have drowned before long if he hadn’t been pulled away. Now, authorities are asking for help in finding out who would do such a cruel thing and leave a terrified dog to die a slow death. Based on the tide schedule, they believe the male, gray-and-white Pit Bull was placed in the cage between 4 and 6 am. They ask anyone who has information to call the MCPO Animal Cruelty Hot Line at (877)898-7297 or notify the Highlands Police Department at (732)872-1224. Even if you don’t have information, please spread the story so anyone who knows something has a better chance of seeing it and coming forward.
