On the night of New Year’s Eve, Bob in his slippers without a coat to grab some firewood. He only expected to be outside for a minute, but on the way to get back inside of his house, he slipped and fell hard. Bob was lying in the snow and found that he was unable to move. He screamed for help, but his nearest neighbor was a quarter of a mile away. No one could hear him except for Kelsey, his loyal Golden Retriever.
Kelsey came to Bob and stayed with him. In the freezing temperatures, she lied on top of him and licked his face and hands to keep him warm and awake. Bob was on the ground all night, and even as his voice gave out from calling for help in the morning hours, Kelsey kept barking for help. Finally on the next evening, 20 hours after his fall, Bob’s neighbor came to borrow some eggs. Bob was found unconscious with Kelsey still by his side.
Bob was rushed to the hospital. He was hypothermic and his core temperature was under 70 degrees. A herniated disc was putting pressure on his spine, causing paralysis. Amazingly, he didn’t have any signs of frostbite. But after surgery, Bob started to move his limbs again. He’s on the road to a miraculous recovery. Bob’s doctor said if it weren’t for Kelsey, he almost surely would have died. Bob considers Kelsey and his doctor to be his two heroes. Kelsey didn’t just keep him warm, she motivated him to survive, and he couldn’t be more grateful.
