Witnesses first saw a German Shepherd Dog jump out of a truck onto a Highway 99 median almost five weeks ago, but when police arrived on the scene, the pup was nowhere to be found. Since then, many drivers called in, claiming to have seen her, but like bigfoot, she was elusive. She even earned the nickname of “Freeway Frida” as her notoriety grew.
Well after those five weeks of wandering along the highway median, coming dangerously close to oncoming traffic, the chase is over. The California Highway Patrol managed to capture Freeway Frida after stopping southbound traffic on the highway. She was rushed to a local animal hospital suffering from a broken leg, malnutrition, and dehydration. But it’s amazing that she was able to survive on her own for that long at all, considering she had most likely stayed in the median the whole time.
At the time of writing this article, no owner has been found. Freeway Frida had no collar or microchip to identify her owner, so if you recognize the dog, you can call the Galt Police Department at 209-366-7000 or the VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital. But we’re more hopeful that this sweet pup will be able to find a new, safer home where she won’t ever have to go through a nightmare like that again. Frida has proven she’s a tough gal, and she’d be a great companion for a forever family.
