Great Dane Service Dog Helps Boy With Cerebral Palsy Learn To Walk Again

When life gets tough, it’s always good to have a great, big friend looking out for you. Wendy the Great Dane is that big buddy for Hunter VanBrocklin, a fourth grader who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the age of two. Hunter had hip dysplasia surgery at the beginning of the year, and Wendy is helping with his rehabilitation so he’ll be able to walk again.

The service dog came into Hunter’s life three years ago, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Wendy helps Hunter maintain his balance and, when he falls, helps him get back on his feet. They’re best friends, and Wendy is very protective of her boy. Even when he’s at the doctor, everyone who enters the room must acknowledge Wendy before treating Hunter.

It’s a good thing Wendy is around. Hunter’s doctor says the walker just doesn’t suit the boy, as he absolutely loves to walk and hike. His mind is moving faster than his body, and he just won’t be held back. Wendy is helping Hunter get stronger every day as she stays by his side, helping him on his way. Hunter has big dreams, hoping to one day climb Mount Everest with his pup. It may be a long shot, but these two aren’t slowing down any time soon.
