Animals OK at shelter close to Boston blast site

The Animal Rescue League of Boston reports all personnel and animals at their shelter are safe and sound. The Boston shelter facility and headquarters are located approximately half a mile away from the April 15 explosions that took place along the final stretch of the Boston Marathon near the finish line.

The ARLF sponsored four runners in the race.

“Please know everyone is safe,” a statement on the website reads. “Thank you for your outpouring of support for the League during this tough time in Boston.”

“We are all stunned and saddened by the horrible events of yesterday,” League President Mary Nee said in a statement. “As a community of humane, caring individuals we grieve for the senseless loss of life and personal injuries.”

The site claimed the animals are being cared for, and that their shelter and Veterinary Care facility were not shut down and will be open during normal business hours.

A final comment reads: “It’s important to remember that in difficult times like this, the unconditional love and warmth from the animals in our lives can help comfort our deepest fears, and make the darkest day seem a little bit brighter.”

The blasts claimed three lives and injured more than 170 people.
