Many people work on their bucket lists throughout — and especially at the end — of their lives. But a 1-year-old dog with kidney failure is tackling his “before I die” to-do list, one exciting adventure at a time.

Kidney Failure Inspires Bucket List Living

Remy is an Aussidoodle from Lincoln, Nebraska, who fell ill last summer. After many vet appointments, blood work finally revealed that he had renal dysplasia. The prognosis was “one, maybe three years,” according to his dog mom, Dawn Giebler.

When Giebler realized Remy’s life would be cut short, she composed a bucket list for the pup. The to-dos included activities like taking a spin in a fire truck, paddleboarding at Holmes Lake, and cozying up to Santa Claus.

For his first birthday, Remy checked another item off the list — riding in a police car.

“Usually people don’t want to ride in police cars, but we’ll let him ride in the front seat instead of the back,” police officer Melissa Ripley joked to KETV 7. When she heard about Remy’s mission, she was more than willing to let the pup ride shotgun in her squad.

“I love dogs, so this was an easy one for me,” she said.

Remy also had a special birthday party at the Omaha Dog Bar, another to-do on his bucket list.

“He’s done more in one year of his life than many dogs have done in 15 years,” Giebler told KETV 7 news.

But there’s still so much to be done. Skydiving, dining on steak, swimming in the ocean, and marching in a parade are just a few of the items remaining on the long list.

“He loves life and I give him the best one I can,” Giebler said.

“My name is Remy,” one post reads. “I was born with renal dysplasia, which is a total bummer, BUT it serves as a reminder to live each day to the fullest! My human put together a bucket list of all of the fun things she hopes I’ll be able to do while I’m on this side of the rainbow bridge.”

Here’s to Remy for making the most out of life — and taking all of us along for the ride!
