Senior Shelter Dog Had a Home for as Long as He Could Remember, but This Is His Life Now

The feeling of being surrendered can be devastating for shelter dogs, who are now left to navigate an unfamiliar space. Senior dog Mambo’s story isn’t any different. In an Instagram video posted by @circlecitypups, volunteer Jessica shared the 12-year-old’s story that struck a chord with the internet.

This shelter dog had a loving home for as long as he could remember. But now, he is forced to accept his new life inside the kennel walls. Sharing more about his journey, the human urged interested adopters to give the dog a second chance.

Senior shelter dog’s life wasn’t always like this because he once had a home and family

Senior shelter dog Mambo lived a completely different life before he came to the shelter. Sharing his story in an Instagram video, volunteer Jessica revealed that his previous family surrendered the 12-year-old. While this rings true for many shelter dogs, Mambo lived in the same home for nine years before he was suddenly left all alone.

Jessica further shared that the senior dog has been at the shelter since February this year. For the past two and a half months, Mambo has had to come to terms with his situation and wait for a new family to adopt him. Shedding light on the issue, the volunteer reflected, “I can’t imagine what that transition was like for him.”

The video went on to share more about the dog, in hopes of him finding his forever home. The clip captured Mambo’s lively personality as he joyfully rolled around in the park. Jessica also said the dog’s previous owners had taught him basic commands. The senior shelter dog expertly caught a treat from the volunteer’s hand, offering the human a gentle handshake with his paw, and more. Calling him an “overall A+ good boy,” the human requested that those interested in meeting him contact the Indianapolis Animal Care Services.

Meanwhile, many in the comments section shared their love for Mambo. One prayed he would find someone to love him and spend the rest of his life with. Another stressed how senior dogs could make the best companions.
