A stolen dog has been found in Vancouver thanks to the eagle eyes of a local transport attendant, The Province reported.
Ollie, a 10-year-old Border Collie, went missing. His dog parent tied him up outside a business in downtown Vancouver on Tuesday. After searching for the pup, they found a police offer and reported the stolen dog.
An Alert Employee
Around 2 am on the following morning, a SkyTrain worker saw an appeal from the dog parent on social media. She remembered that as she was finishing up her shift she saw a woman boarding a Route 9 bus with a dog who looked a lot like Ollie. She let Metro Vancouver Transit Police know. Coast Mountain Bus Company put an alert out for all drivers to keep an eye out for the canine.
A Route 9 bus driver saw that Ollie was on his bus. He kept police updated until they were able to intercept the bus and find Ollie. They arrested a 35-year-old woman known to police for theft and possession of stolen property. Then, they kept Ollie safe until reuniting him with his family.
Happy Endings
Transit Police Constable Amanda Steed said that the force were “proud to have been able to play a role in a heartwarming ending to a situation that would be any pet owner’s worst nightmare.
“We are deeply grateful for the relationships that our officers and dispatchers have with the frontline staff at SkyTrain and Coast Mountain bus. Truly, teamwork is the reason that Ollie is now back at home with his family.”
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Toronto police charged a 36-year-old woman who they say stole two dogs at knifepoint. A Shih Tzu and a Scottish Terrier were both taken when a man and woman confronted their dog parent during a walk. Fortunately, officers found both dogs unharmed and returned them safely.
