Winter months means a flood of additional animals to shelters. Whether they’re outdoor pets that no longer have a place to stay or former holiday gifts, the unfortunate reality is many dogs end up in the shelter during the cold months. For rural shelters, it can be even harder to adopt out this influx of animals. One shelter in NC is struggling with another issue, too: a lack of dog food.
Rural shelter runs out of donations
Randolph County Animal Services shared to their Facebook followers that their shelter is in urgent need of dry dog food. The shelter has had a larger amount of animals due to pending cruelty cases. “They have lots of hungry pups and are in urgent need of dry dog food. Any donations of dry dog food would be greatly appreciated and accepted at RCAS,” said the Randolph County Sherriff’s Office in a post trying to direct attention to the shelter. The shelter noted they prefer foods without red dye; they prefer the brands Pedigree, Purina, and Wag. However, they will take any dry dog food donations.
