What could be better than walking your dog? How about walking them for a good cause that helps other dogs find their forever homes?

DogTime visited Community Animal Rescue Effort’s (C.A.R.E.) Strut for Strays, a 2.5 mile walk through the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park in Illinois. The event helped raise money for strays and unwanted cats and dogs in C.A.R.E.’s care!

We had a blast meeting all the good boys and good girls who put their paws to the pavement and walked with their moms and dads through the beautiful park. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!

Here are some of our favorite pictures from C.A.R.E.’s Strut for Strays 2019!

As you can see, the pups were very eager to check out our cameras while they sniffed around the park. There were pooches of all ages, from puppies to sweet seniors. They were all on their best behavior and ready to make friends!

Some dogs wanted to walk for the whole time with energy to burn. Others moved at their own easy, slower pace. Still others hitched rides in bags or wagons towed by their loving pet parents.

So many stopped to meet us, and a few even rolled over for belly rubs in the grass. These pooches made us so happy! We’re really hoping to go again next year to cover all the action.

Support C.A.R.E.’s Mission

C.A.R.E. is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping cats and dogs find their forever homes around the north side of Chicago and the surrounding norther suburbs. They opened a new adoption center in Skokie, Illinois last summer.

The organization relies on volunteer foster pet parents to care for many of the animals they try to provide homes for. It takes about $300 for C.A.R.E. to prepare each adult animal they take in and $500 for each puppy or kitten. Clearly, events like the Strut for Strays are necessary and help them save unwanted or stray pets.

Of course, this event is made possible with support from businesses in the community. It’s inspiring to see so many people and organizations rally around this great cause. You can check out the sponsors on the event page here and show those businesses some love if you make it out to Illinois.

Even more importantly, there are many ways to donate to C.A.R.E.’s mission, and you can check them out here. You don’t need to come to Skokie for the Strut to show your support, though you’re welcome to join in next year! We at DogTime hope to see you there!
