Take Your Dog To Work Day is Friday, June 24th in 2022! It’s our favorite time of year to show off our sweet fur babies to all our coworkers.
Everyone should have a positive experience on this fun occasion, especially your dog. There are a few steps you should take to make sure your work space is safe for your pup to spend the day as they find out exactly what it is that you do when you disappear for all those hours.
Here are a few ways to make your office dog proof for Take Your Dog To Work Day.
If you follow these steps, you can make Take Your Dog To Work Day fun for both you and your pup. Remember that this will be a new situation for your dog, so they may need a walk to have a break from the excitement.
I’m sure they’ll be happy to meet all of your friends, get lots of pets, and most of all, not get left at home for the day.

Put Pens, Highlighters, & Markers Away

This goes for anything that might be small enough for your dog to choke on, as well.
You know your dog better than anyone, so you'll know if they're likely to eat things they're not supposed to.
Chances are good you already put these things away at home if your dog is a chewer, but make sure you give your office the same treatment.

Your pooch may be an excellent document shredder, but leave that job to the machines. Making a mess can be fun, but you don't want your dog to have a belly full of paper.

Bored dogs cause trouble. It's their way of staying stimulated. So instead of allowing your dog to make their own fun, bring something interesting to chew on.
Take a favorite toy or chewable treat that will keep them busy for a few hours. That way they won't go looking for mischief.

Hide The Office Treats

Lots of offices have sweets or other food within reach, and plenty of it is harmful to dogs. Chocolate and peanut butter with xylitol are toxic for pups, for example, so make sure they are hidden away for human mouths only.
If a coworker is wondering where their food is, maybe you can make a treasure map for them. Bonus activities!

Bring Food & A Bed

It should go without saying, but lots of people forget in the excitement of showing off their dogs. Your pup is going to need to eat during the day, and over the course of eight hours, they'll probably want a comfortable place to lie down, too.
If you don't want them begging coworkers for food or lying down on the lunch table, bring supplies.

Make Your Individual Office Or Cubicle A Safe Home Base

Meeting new people is fun and interesting, but it can get overwhelming. If your dog starts to feel anxious, make sure your work space is a designated comfort zone.
There's nothing wrong with keeping your dog on leash next to you for a little while to calm down.

Have Clean Up Items Readily Available

Dogs are good at making messes, and in the excitement of all the new smells, people, and even other dogs, your pup may feel the need to mark their territory.
Don't leave messes sitting around all day for the cleaning people to take care of. Have some cleaning items at the ready just in case.
