The first few seconds of the video make the plan look simple: show the Mastiff the steps, get him into the tub, and start the grooming session. However, he has a very different plan. Shared by @rileyspetsalon, the clip shows the groomer demonstrating the steps herself. Then she patiently tries to convince him to give them a go.
He watches, hesitates, and eventually decides that staying firmly on the floor is the better option. This leads to a surprisingly long back-and-forth involving encouragement, peanut butter, and several almost-breakthroughs until the Mastiff ends up looking exhausted from refusing to move.
Mastiff takes attempt after attempt to get onto the grooming platform before hilariously tiring himself out
The whole thing starts with the groomer giving the Mastiff a very enthusiastic demonstration. She jumps up, points toward the bathing station, and even gives him a thumbs-up, as if a quick lesson should settle the matter. But it doesn’t. He sits on the floor with a puzzled expression, then casually walks past the tub when given the chance.
Once the groomer brings him back and places him in front of the steps, he plants himself there. She encourages him forward, but he turns his head away. Houston, indeed, has a problem. The groomer pulls the steps out farther and shows him exactly what to do, climbing them herself before waving him into the tub.
She tries pleading, coaxing, and a little exaggerated playful scolding. Eventually, he puts his front paws on the first step, which feels like a major breakthrough, until he digs in and refuses to go any farther. Then comes the peanut butter, and even that fails.
At one point, he gets his front paws onto the tub floor, and the groomer celebrates too early. He backs right down again. Another attempt gets him almost there, only for him to change his mind at the last second. Her slow-motion “Nooo!” says plenty.
By then, the grooming session has clearly become more tiring for the groomer than the dog. She tries one last round, but eventually finds him stretched completely flat on the floor. Her hand goes to her aching back, and the on-screen text says, “I was supposed to be the tired one.” The video has earned 19.1K likes, and with a “To be continued…” ending, this battle may not be over yet.
