Fear doesn’t disappear the moment an animal is rescued. For one tiny mama dog, reaching a shelter was only the first step, and it took time before she believed her babies were truly out of danger. A video shared by Big Love Animal Rescue follows that emotional transition as the canine family moves from a shelter crate into the comfort of a foster home.
Mama rescue dog hides her babies and protects them until they’re safe in foster home
Los Angeles-based Big Love Animal Rescue introduced the little family shortly after they arrived in its care. While the puppies remained nestled beside their mother, it was the mama dog’s behavior that immediately stood out.
Curled tightly around her babies inside a crate, she appeared determined to keep them as close as possible while carefully watching everything happening around her.
Little is known about where the family came from or what they experienced before being rescued. However, the mother’s cautious demeanor suggested she had been through enough to remain on high alert. As shelter staff approached to check on the family and provide care, she kept scanning the room, seemingly unsure whether the unfamiliar environment could be trusted.
According to Big Love Animal Rescue, the shelter setting proved overwhelming for the frightened dog. The rescue explained that she was trembling and visibly fearful. That prompted the team to quickly move the mother and her puppies into a foster home, where they could decompress in a quieter environment.
The difference became noticeable almost immediately. Once inside the foster home, the mother slowly began to settle into her new surroundings. Now, she appeared more comfortable lying beside her puppies as they nursed.
A second update released about two weeks later showed just how much progress the family had made. The rescue noted that the mama dog had done an excellent job raising her puppies, who had continued to grow under her care. The update also celebrated a major milestone for one of the pups. A puppy named Theodore had officially found his forever home.
