Dog Dating Just Got a Bit Too Real With This App — Report

Living in a crowded city usually means passing hundreds of potential friends on the sidewalk without ever saying hello. But a brand-new platform is completely changing how urban pet owners handle socialization.

According to a report by the New York Post, a newly launched dog dating app is making it incredibly easy for pet parents to set up structured hangouts. It is called Dog Date Afternoon. The monthly service lets owners browse local profiles to find the ultimate companion for their pets. Additionally, it also helps busy humans meet new people.

New dating app reportedly matches dogs for playdates or group outings

Dog Date Afternoon launched in late May on the App Store for a monthly fee of $4.99. It already has hundreds of people on a waitlist across New York City. The creator, Erika Wasser, actually built the entire software as a side project.

On it, owners get to build custom profiles detailing their pet’s age, size, temperament, and play style. There is even a spot to upload vaccination records and organize schedules. Users can also pin their favorite pet-friendly restaurants on an interactive map.

Many city animals spend all day inside small apartments while their owners work. But going to a crowded public park can feel totally overwhelming for sensitive animals. This customized dog dating app focuses on one-on-one compatibility instead.

Training expert Ivan Petersel told the New York Post, “One-on-one playdates allow owners to focus on compatibility instead of convenience.” He notes that structured setups are way better than throwing a pet into a large group of random animals with varying personalities.

As per the report, the matches are already happening in real life. Like an energetic Bernedoodle named Callie who recently met up with an English Cocker Spaniel named Crew at a Soho park.

They shared toys and played for an hour. Erika Wasser told the New York Post, “They hit it off immediately and played to the point of near exhaustion,” While the humans just sat on benches and chatted.

Finding a compatible playmate just requires a few quick taps on a phone screen now. It seems like a great excuse to get outside and explore some new neighborhood spots. Hopefully, more cities get access to the service so lonely pups everywhere can find their perfect match.
