Being a cat in a multispecies household is a full-time job, especially when your roommate is a Golden Retriever who thinks “leave me alone” is just another way to say “let’s play.” Waffles is a nine-year-old polydactyl cat who lives with his chaotic five-year-old sister in Kansas City. Their daily drama plays out on @thegoldenbreakfastclub, where fans watch them constantly figure out the rules of engagement. In this new video, this daring Golden Retriever is busy testing every boundary possible that her cat sibling has set.
Golden Retriever’s love for the cat is misunderstood in adorable video
The clip breaks down all the ways Maple accidentally “rage-baits” her brother. She starts by suddenly climbing onto the back of the couch, where Waffles is just trying to mind his own business. This makes the cat get really mad, and he lets out these super annoyed meows while trying to swat her away from his personal space. Maple just ducks like a pro. She is used to those fast paws.
In the next clip, we see Maple flinging her whole body around in excitement while Waffle sits on the armrest. It’s like she’s vibrating with joy, and Waffles is just vocally dismissing the entire performance.
And then there is the “following” phase, which really seems to push his buttons. Waffles starts walking across the arm of the couch. What does Maple do? She immediately tries to match his pace from the floor. This irritates the cat to no end, and he turns around to give her a proper hiss. Maple, though, just takes a few steps back.
Waffles gives her a total death stare before jumping off to get out of the room. But the Golden Retriever just grabs a toy because she thinks they are finally having a real playtime.
In another short video, we see Maple staring at her cat brother with way too much love (this is also a problem). She flops over on the seat of the couch and tilts her head back to look at him while he perches on the backrest. Waffles does not like this at all and swats her several times while complaining loudly.
And then there are the “booty sniffs” that happen while he is standing on a dining chair. He treats that like a massive invasion of privacy. He turns around to meow and whack her, which makes her retreat for a second, but then gets another whack just for existing. One fan joked that they literally pay their internet bills just to see how annoyed Waffles is. Over 29k people have liked the video already because the sibling energy is so real.
