Dewey, a Golden Retriever puppy, has decided that a slow drink water bowl is not the boss of him, and this Instagram video from @misterdeweydadog captures just that. In the Reel, Dewey faces off with a water bowl designed to stop dogs from gulping down liquids too fast. The onscreen caption reads, “Outsmarting my ‘slow drink water bowl,’” and Dewey treats it like a puzzle he plans to win, because he is not to be trifled with.
Golden Retriever puppy makes big efforts to outsmart his ‘slow drink water bowl’
At first in the video, the Golden Retriever pup tries to play by the rules of the water bowl. He lowers his face to the bowl, then lifts his head with water dripping from his mouth. But when that does not work, he switches tactics.
Dewey dips a paw into the bowl and starts working the surface. Meanwhile, splashes begin to spread around the container as his strategy gets messier. Dewey’s determination fits the post caption, which frames the whole thing as a challenge from mom, reading, “Wait for the end – mom thought she could slow me down but i was born to chug ;).”
And then the Golden eventually unleashes his ultimate move — he tips the bowl over. Water spills out across the floor, and the “slow drink” feature becomes irrelevant, because, well, the bowl cannot control the pace if the water is not inside it anymore.
Viewers in the comment section had a field day watching Dewey outsmart the setup. One wrote, “You showed mum good,” while another viewer recognized the strategy right away, joking, “When in doubt dump it out.”
And a third user shared their own story, writing, “My goldendoodle did the same with one of those find the treat games- just ripped the top straight off and helped herself.”
Puppies learn with their mouths and paws, and a water bowl that gets in the way can turn drinking into a problem-solving game. Dewey is a rebel, so he wanted to beat the system — and, safe to say, he certainly did.
