Sofia Richie’s Dog Hershula: Breed, Age, and More

Many are wondering what happened to Sofia Richie’s dog Hershula, also known as Hershela, especially because the pup was a gift to her by ex-boyfriend Scott Disick many years ago. Since then, the model got married to Elliot Grainge in April 2023, yet the Instagram for Hershula has not been updated since August 2022. So it makes sense that fans want to know where the dog has gone. Here’s what we know so far about Sofia Richie’s pup Hershula, including its age, breed, and most recent whereabouts.

How old is Sofia Richie’s dog Hershula?

Sofia Richie’s dog Hershula is roughly seven years old, as of February 28, 2025.

This estimate is based on several pieces of information. In a humorous Instagram post on January 13, 2020, Hershula is described as a “2 year old stuck inside a 50 years old body.” According to People back in February 23, 2018, her puppy was only 5 weeks old at the time, meaning that the dog’s birth date is somewhere in the middle of January 2018. With a bit of math, the adorable pooch turned seven near the beginning of 2025.

That said, we haven’t seen many photos of Hershula in a while. Since the dog’s Instagram account hasn’t been updated for several years, we combed through Sofia’s Instagram to see if there were any pictures of the dog. At the time of writing, the most recent one we could find is dated November 23, 2023, with the fifth image in the gallery showing Hershula in the arms of Sofia while she poses on a bed. A few weeks before that, the dog was being carried by her husband.

What breed is Sofia Richie’s dog Hershula?

Hershula, Sofia Richie’s dog, is a female Dachshund, a toy breed known for its short legs and long body.

Also known as a Doxie, Sausage Dog, or Wiener Dog, the Dachshund tends to live somewhere between 12 to 16 years. That means Hershula is an adult and should still be alive. (We expect that Sofia would write about the dog passing if that happened.)

Back in October 2021, Hershula had a health scare and ruptured a disk in her spine. Sofia recounts that the dog was “dragging her back legs” one morning, and she immediately rushed her to the emergency vet to have a surgery called IVDD. To prevent this from happening again to a dachshund, she recommends using a harness, having ramps or stairs, and making sure the dog is at a healthy weight.
