“Bluey” has become one of the most popular animated TV shows of recent years. It even went viral on TikTok after some users posted about how their dogs are loving the show. Despite this popularity, the show’s future hangs in the balance after the end of Season 3.
‘Bluey’ TV show’s future uncertain as Season 3 draws to an end
“Bluey” is Joe Brumm’s acclaimed Australian cartoon show featuring a family of anthropomorphic Australian Blue Heeler dogs. It’s captivated audiences since its 2018 debut in Australia, leading to the BBC gaining global distribution rights. The Walt Disney Co. also acquired it soon after, propelling its international success through Disney+, as Bloomberg reports. In the United States, it ranked as the second most streamed show of 2023.
However, to fans’ dismay, the show may not continue after Season 3. The upcoming season finale of “Bluey,” titled “The Sign,” will be released on April 14. This special episode will be 28 minutes long, unlike regular episodes, which are usually seven to nine minutes long.
As of now, ABC (Australian Broadcasting Channel) and BBC Studios have not made an announcement regarding the development of a fourth season. However, there isn’t any confirmation that the show has been canceled either.
In the past, ABC and BBC Studios had approved subsequent seasons before a year had passed since the previous one. However, despite the third season’s green light in 2020 and its premiere in Australia in 2021, the status of Season 4 is still unsure.
In interviews, Brumm has been asked many times about the potential conclusion of “Bluey” after the third season. However, he has “done little to tamp down” these rumors.
In addition, the season finale’s title is causing a ruckus among fans. “The Sign” seems to be referring to the “For Sale” sign for the home where the Heelers live.
BBC’s Cecilia Persson gives fans some hope when she says, “We’re actually in a process on Season 4, but we don’t really want to talk about this now.”
